Modular Metal‐Quinone Networks with Tunable Architecture and Functionality

Nanostructured materials with tunable structures and functionality are of interest in diverse areas. Herein, metal ions coordinated quinones through metal-acetylacetone coordination bonds to generate a class structurally tunable, universally adhesive, hydrophilic, pH-degradable materials. A library metal-quinone networks (MQNs) is produced from five model quinone ligands paired nine ions, leading the assembly particles, tubes, capsules, films. Importantly, MQNs show bidirectional pH-responsive disassembly acidic alkaline solutions, where mediate kinetics, enabling temporal spatial control over release multiple components using multilayered MQNs. Leveraging this inherent medicinal properties quinones, MQN prodrugs high drug loading (>89 wt %) engineered doxorubicin for anti-cancer therapy shikonin inhibition main protease SARS-CoV-2 virus.
